During cancer treatment, there are good and bad days. But how do you know when something is "normal" within the disease process—and when it's best to contact your vet again?
You should never ignore these signals.
1. Suddenly eating or drinking less
Eating less for one day is possible. Two days is a red flag.
2. Vomiting or diarrhea
Especially in dogs that are receiving medication or chemotherapy, this must be followed up quickly.
3. Increased panting, groaning, or restlessness
This may indicate pain or nausea.
4. Difficulty standing or walking
Suddenly becoming less mobile is never “just old age”.
5. Change in behavior
To withdraw, to stop responding, to hide.
6. Pale mucous membranes or lethargy
May indicate anemia or internal problems.
7. You have a bad feeling
As an owner, you know your dog best. Trust that.
Decision
Better to call once too many than too late. Early intervention can bring a lot of comfort.
